DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

There are times when you feel like a digital, and times when you feel like an analog, but sometimes you just gotta get in with a bit of both. For those times, there are products like DataPro's 1171-A, which will convert the digital output from a DisplayPort source (usually a desktop video card, but maybe also a laptop, Blu-Ray player, or set-top DVR) to an analog signal for use in a VGA display (most cathode-ray tubes and many flatscreens).

DisplayPort is an open alternative to the popular HDMI interface, and features a very similar connector except that HDMI is tapered on both sides and DisplayPort tapered on only one. With HDMI already in a strong position in the home theater market, DisplayPort is being marketed more towards computers and computer accessories, which is why a DisplayPort to VGA converter makes sense. Many folks are fond of their classic CRT and older LCD monitors that rely on the analog-only VGA signal type, and with this easy converter, there's no reason to not keep using them.

This is a one-way ticket, which is to say you cannot use this converter to render an analog source on a DisplayPort monitor.
